Government Assistance for Flood Affected Regions
If you have been impacted by the recent extreme weather in South East Qld and Northern NSW assistance payments and allowances can now be claimed from the Federal Government.
Those households in an eligible flood affected Local Government area can apply to receive a one-off Disaster Recovery Payment of $1,000 per adult and a further $400 per eligible child.
There is also a Disaster Recovery Allowance (DRA) which provides income payments of up to 13 weeks for individuals whose income has been affected by the floods. The DRA assists employees, small business persons and farmers who experience a loss of income as a direct result of a major disaster. The DRA payment is set at the maximum equivalent rate of Jobseeker Payment or Youth Allowance, depending on your personal circumstances, and is considered taxable income.
To claim these payments, link your myGov account to Centrelink and make a claim via the Centrelink category. The final date for making a claim is currently set at 28 August 2022.
