myGovID Re-branding to myID What You Need to Know




The myGovID app will soon be changing its name to myID. The rebranding aims to reduce confusion between the myGovID app and the myGov platform. The new name better reflects community understanding of digital identities and highlights the Government's commitment to protecting Australians from identity theft and fraud.


What You Need to Know


  1. No Action Required: You don’t need to do anything to prepare for the transition. Your login details, including your email address and the identity strength you’ve set up, will remain unchanged.

  2. Automatic Updates: Your existing app will automatically update to myID, or you can manually update it via the App Store or Google Play once it’s available.

  3. Continued Access: You’ll still have access to a variety of Government online services through the app. During the transition, you may see both myID and myGovID when logging in but this won’t affect your access or security.


Stay Safe from Scams


With the transition, it’s crucial to stay vigilant against scams. Scammers may create fake websites or apps mimicking myGovID or myID. To protect yourself:


  • Avoid Suspicious Links: Don’t click on links or download attachments from unknown sources.

  • Download from Official Sources: Ensure you only download the myID app from Google Play or the App Store.

  • Report Suspicious Activity: If you notice anything unusual on your account, contact the support line immediately.
